Ah, Bach, Episode 023

We’re back! And…more!

Doug was M.I.A. this week, but Screeching Scotty joined us, and Dan called in from a deep well that he’s apparently trapped in…which all makes for completely AWESOME podcast.

Thursday is My Sharing Day

gabeGabe has sharing day at school every Thursday.  Actually, every day is sharing day at preschool – some kids share on Monday, some on Tuesday – Gabe’s day is Thursday.  Nothing excites him during the week more than sharing day.*

*Trash day on Wednesday is a close second – no kidding.  He loves to wheel the trash cans down to the curb with me on Wednesday mornings.  We use “tomorrow’s trash day!” the same way other parents might use “tomorrow, we’re going to Disneyland!”  Gosh, I wish I was three and got that much joy from a green, stinky trash can.

Thing is – none of the kids, including Gabe, actually care what’s being shared in his classroom.  A toy from home.  A book.  A rock.  A sock.  Lint.  They dont care what they’re sharing or what’s being shared with them.  They just like sitting around in a circle and having something to look at.  And being able to tell friends what it is.  And how it works.

That interview process, though, is apparently a bit routine.  I’ll ask Gabe each day how school was.  ”It was Skylar’s sharing day.”  ”Oh yeah, what did he share?”  ”A teddy bear.  He keeps it on his bed.”  Next day: “today was Andrew’s sharing day.  It was a book.  He keeps it on his shelf.”  What it is and where they keep it.  Pretty much the only information he walks away from school with each day.

So, as I’m lazily considering what to do with this site in the post-AFP haze, I think Thursday should be my sharing day too.  I’m going to share songs.  I’ll share a few each Thursday.  Five songs every Thursday.  Maybe five new songs.  Probably five old songs.  Maybe five songs that go well together – maybe not.

Like Gabe’s sharing, it doesn’t have to mean anything.  And doesn’t have to make sense.  It’s just sharing day.  And that makes Gabe and I happy.

AFP Wrap-Up

First, the easy one – nice job by Gordon in Week 17.  15-1.  Which is a great mark, but also brings up the fact that we had NO perfect weeks turned in this season.  I think we’ve had about six weeks in 14 years where at least one person went undefeated.  There’s no point to this, other than it’s hard to go loss-less.  But I think we knew this already.

What else can we talk about?  Anything?  What’s that?  No…no, I’d rather not talk about who won the AFP.  It’s not important.  Just a silly little game.  Isn’t it enough that a bunch of us participated and had fun?  Why focus on just one person who “won.”  I don’t think we need to dwell on it.

Oh, okay.  Scotty #@%$in’ Ray won the AFP.  See what you did?  Now we have to talk about Scott.  This is NOT fun.

Scott had a nice-enough Week 17.  Bossypants made his final charge, finishing just a game back.  And Craig geared up for his finale by kneeling in a gutter and throwing up all over himself.  I shouldn’t say that – he took some chances, called his shot, crossed his fingers… and choked on a T-Bone (or Tebow-n).  Not that I want to give Craig a hard time, but I can still hear him coughing.  I feel bad for him.

I’m calling 2011 the Year of Scotty.  Let’s think about it.  He won fantasy football, breaking Eddie’s heart.  He won the AFP.  He personally had Turner Gill fired.  Pretty much everything Scotty wanted this last year, he got. I’m just glad he didn’t ask for Ari Meyers’ phone number again.  Cause that WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!

By the way, did you see Scotty’s celebration dance?

I’m still working on a prize pack for Scott.  A few years back, I gave up actually coming through on prizes.  These days, I just promise things that I never follow up on.  So, Scotty…so far, I can promise you a large cash prize, a lifetime membership to Whispers, and a shetland pony.  (Though I’m not positive that there’s that much of difference between those latter two.  And I have no idea what that means.)

Scotty becomes our first (I think, though Horst or Dan may have a claim…can’t remember)…but let’s say that Scotty is a our FIRST repeat AFP winner.  He won years ago, back when we didn’t have all this new-fangled technology and protective gear.  Back then, Scotty made his picks in a leather helmet and played right through injuries.

Congrats, Scotty.  We’re proud of you.  I’m glad you got this victory.  I’m glad you won $ in fantasy football.  And I’m glad you made that call to Charlie Weis.  Because now you have AFP pride.  And a used foosball table.  And at least seven months of good thoughts about KU football.  What a happy new year.

Everyone – thanks for playing.  Thanks for coming back each week.  Thanks for trying to beat my mom.  I hope you all have a great new year.  And a happy playoffs.  And all the ice cream sandwiches you’ve ever wanted.  Until next time… well, this website might turn back into a blog.  Cheers!
