AFP, Week 13

Just another season convincing me that the NFL has CFB beat in most every single way…

Standings are updated.  Scotty Ray has a commanding lead.  C’mon people – WE CAN NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!  Time to mobilize all efforts (and start outright cheating!).

Week 12 winner: Congrats to Kodiakkayakrowboat666 (or whatever their name is) – the only one to go 15-1.  Nicely done.  I think I’ve been told this season who’s who (for these names I don’t recognize), but as my wife can attest – I can’t remember a thing.  So…sorry I can’t personalize this congratulatory message more.  Don’t be offended, most of these names – I have no idea.  What’s a Billy Horst?  Dan C?  MOM???  No idea…

While 15-1 was a great week, it was a favorites weekend.  Lots of 13s and 14s on the board.  Heck, if you couldn’t get to double digits this week, you might as well…(scans list)…well, you might as well go ahead and learn how to make that meatloaf.

AFP, Week 12

Thanksgiving Edition!

Look at me!  I’m reasonably on time this week!  I know many of you are taking off soon for your Turkey-thons, so feel free to get your picks in EARLY.  Remember, there are three games on Thursday.  Deadline is before the first kickoff.

Congrats to Neuty on his Week 11 win.  For his prize, I plan on giving him a fantasy football win this weekend.  Which is nice of me because, 1) his 3-8 team needs it, and 2)…. well, there is no two.  There’s really only the fact of me trying to build an early excuse for losing to a 3-8 team.

Scotty Ray regains the overall lead again.  I have a question for Scotty – if a KU win on Saturday saves Turner Gill’s job, do you root for Missouri?  That’s a tough one.  He’s in a can’t-win situation this week.

I sincerely hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving.  And if you’re eating your holiday meal with a Starkweather – for the love of god, BE CAREFUL!!!!

AFP, Week 11

Throwing these games up quick.  Will update standings by end of Wednesday.  TEEEEBOWWWW!!!!

UPDATE:  Sorry, I was distracted for a few minutes/hours/days with Denver’s game Thursday night.  I’ve gone a little overboard with the Tebow-mania.  I bought the jersey.  Ordered the kneeling bobblehead.  I’m even considering building my own Filipino hospital.  I like to think I’m a mature sports fan, who can compartmentalize enjoying the games and not building its players into overblown caricatures.  These people aren’t actual heroes.  They’re just good athletes.  Some are nice people.  Some are jerks.  And some…well, one named Tim Tebow, IS THE GREATEST HUMAN BEING ALIVE, WHO JUST HAPPENS TO PLAY FOOTBALL WHILE NOT SAVING KITTENS FROM BURNING BUILDINGS.  See?  It’s important to have a good perspective on things.  I used to be so immature about these kinds of things.  (And my apologies to Stacey, cause she’s right – I didn’t have to be so literal when applying the orange full body orange paint.)

Congrats to bossoaks and Mustache Marshall on their Week 10 tie.  I’d like to break that tie, but I’m too busy contemplating their names.  When did the AFP become populated with WWF characters?  I loved when Mustache Marshall knocked out The Iron Sheik with the folding chair.

Oh…and I’m pretty sure I’ve made numerous scoring mistakes these last two weeks.  Today (Sunday) I’ll be correcting those.  So feel free to check back tonight for the REAL standings.  For those who’ve written me to say, “Dude, what kind of idiot chimps to you have counting up those picks each week?” I’d just like to say that your words hurt.  And that I have the BEST idiot chimps, thankyouverymuch.

THERE’S A GAME ON THURSDAY NIGHT THIS WEEK!!!

I’ll try to add some thoughts on Wednesday that can live up to that opening sentence.  But it’s gonna be tough.

UPDATE:  Okay, I should probably type a few things this week.

First off, it’s Broncos/Chefs week.  This is BIG!  I mean, a division crown is at stake!  The first team to 6-10 has an inside track to the SUPER BOWL!  Lousy division or not, I will enjoy a very special feeling (even down there!) if Tebow can somehow pull out a victory in Arrowhead.  That will tick so many of you off – admit it.  I can’t wait.

Week 9 Winner:  Dave Starkweather.  I know – we have a firm “No Starkweathers” tiebreaker rule, but look at alternatives.  I’m a much too awesome (and modest) an AFP host to name myself.  Clark’s taking KU football shots in his entries and we don’t want to reward a bully, especially from those who follow mid-major conference schools like MU.  And Kevin STILL hasn’t served up any meatloaf.  So…congrats, Dave.  By not being me, Clark or Kevin – you earned it!

Scotty Ray’s sitting all alone atop the standings.  God help us all.
